ONE SHADE FOR ALL POSTERIOR RESTORATIONS
HHow many different shades of composite do you need in the posterior region? If you opt for CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES-2 Universal, a single shade will do the trick. The go-to solution for common posterior restorations, independent of the color of the underlying and adjacent tooth structure.
NO OPAQUER NEEDED!
A blocker or opaquer is not needed. This is due to the material's specific level of translucency and the integration of Kuraray Noritake Dental's Light Diffusion Technology LDT, which makes restorations diffuse light in a similar way tooth structure does. As a result, the material integrates easily and smoothly into the surrounding tooth structure and preparation margins become virtually invisible. Other features and benefits include:
- Light Diffusion Technology
- Wide Blending Effect & Reduces/Eliminates Need to Use Opaquer or Blocker Resin.
- Excellent Esthetics
- Reduced Number of Shades
- Fewer Steps, Fewer Potential Problems (Simplicity)
- Excellent Blending at Margins
Indications for Use

Q: What is Clearfil Majesty ES-2 Universal?
A: Clearfil Majesty ES-2 Universal is the latest addition to the Majesty ES-2 series. Like the Classic and Premium series, it is a light-cure, radiopaque restorative material which provides accurate colour matching, high polishability and excellent physical properties, making it ideal for both anterior and posterior restorations. It is formulated with optimal viscosity, assuring easy handling and placement. It is packaged in traditional syringes or single-dose tips.
What makes this Universal series truly special is that the shades cover all shades of the VITA classical A1-D3 shade standard with a limited number of SKUs depending on the cavity class.
Q: How does Clearfil Majesty ES-2 Universal series differ from the Classic and Premium series?
Clearfil Majesty ES-2 Universal is a simplified system that covers all the shades of the VITA classical A1-D3 shade standard with 3 syringes (an additional Universal White is available for high-value restorations). The mechanical properties are identical to those of Clearfil Majesty ES-2 Premium and Classic.
Q: How many shades are available and how will they be used?
A: There are 4 Clearfil Majesty ES-2 Universal shades available. These are U (Universal), UL (Universal Light), UD (Universal Dark), and UW (Universal White). The Clearfil Majesty ES-2 Universal shades are used depending on the cavity class:
- A single shade “U (Universal)” will cover all the posterior restorations (Classes I, II)
- For the anterior area (Class III, IV, V), 2 shades are available: “UL (Universal Light)” (A1, A2 groups) and “UD (Universal Dark)” (A3, A3.5, A4 groups)
- Additionally, “UW (Universal White)” is available for restorations that require a high value/brightness
Q: How does the Universal series cover all the colours of the VITA classical A1-D3 shade standard with only a few syringes?
A: The improved light diffusion of Clearfil Majesty ES-2 Universal offers superior blending to the tooth structure. Adjustments have been made regarding the translucency/light diffusion balance, allowing for a further improved colour adaptation to the surrounding tooth structure.
Q: When do you recommend the use of the different ES-2 series?
A: Universal, Classic and Premium series can be used for all cases.
- Universal shades are recommended when looking for a simplified and easy-to-use system that will work for the vast majority of your daily cases
- Classic shades offer more shade options for specific cases
- Premium shades are recommended for those cases with the highest aesthetic demands or for large cavities in the anterior area. The balance of opacity and translucency can be adjusted by using both enamel and dentin-specific shades
Please note that at this time Clinical Research Dental only stocks the Universal shade.
Q: Does Clearfil Majesty ES-2 Universal have a long working time?
A: Yes. Clearfil Majesty ES-2 Universal keeps the same handling and mechanical properties as the Classic and Premium series. It has a significantly longer working time than competitive products (over 4 minutes under ambient light). Having a longer working time is very beneficial for example when sculpting the anatomical aspects into the restoration.
Q: What is the filler content of Clearfil Majesty ES-2 Universal?
A: The filler content of Clearfil Majesty ES-2 Universal amounts to 78 wt% (66 vol%).
Q: Can Clearfil Majesty ES-2 Universal be easily polished?
A: The polishability is the same as already established with Majesty ES-2 series. Clearfil Majesty ES-2 Universal offers easy polishing with a durable gloss. Clearfil Twist Dia is recommended for fast and easy polishing.
Q: How is Clearfil Majesty ES-2 Universal supplied?
A: Clearfil Majesty ES-2 Universal is available in syringes or single-dose tips.
Q: Do I have to keep the product in the fridge?
A: Clearfil Majesty ES-2 Universal must be stored at 2-25°C when not in use. When the product is stored in the refrigerator, it should be left at room temperature for more than 15 minutes before each use to ensure the desired handling properties.
Q: I do not have a shade guide for U, UL, UD, UW. How is shade selection accomplished?
A: The concept of the Universal series is that a shade guide is not needed in order to work in a simplified way.
As a reference, use U shade for all posterior cavities, UL for anterior cavities that demand a high value/lightness (A1, A2 ranges) and UD for anterior cavities with lower value / darker appearance (A3, A3.5, A4 ranges). Use UW for the tooth determined as W/XW shade, if the restoration requires an even higher lightness or value. The package includes a chart that can be used as a reference.
Q: Why are there two shades for anterior and one for posterior? Why not one shade for both?
A: While restorations in the posterior area lead a shadowy existence most of the time due to the surrounding hard and soft tissues, the anterior are always in the spotlight. Briefly speaking: light dynamics are totally different. Thus, both areas have different requirements that we are able to address offering specific shades. Doing this, it is possible to maintain a stronger focus on aesthetics and offer a more accurate shade match that will result in superior aesthetic restorations compared to manufacturers offering a single-shade solution.
Q: What does ES-2 stand for?
A: ES-2 represents Esthetic and Simple.
Q: What is the shelf life?
A: The shelf life is the same as the rest of Clearfil Majesty ES-2 series: 48 months from the date of manufacture.
